The Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health, often known as Velankanni Matha Church, is a premier Catholic pilgrimage site located in Nagapattinam town near Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, popularly known as the “Lourdes of the East”. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, this 16th-century, Gothic-style shrine draws millions for its healing reputation. The church is open daily from 5 AM to 9 PM for prayer.

Significance: It is one of the most visited, holy, and popular Catholic pilgrimage centers in India, dedicated to “Our Lady of Good Health” (Velankanni Matha).

History: The shrine traces its roots to the 16th century following three reported miracles, including the appearance of Mary and the Infant Jesus to a shepherd boy.

Visiting Timings: The shrine is generally open from 5 AM to 9 PM, with morning mass starting around 5:40 AM and evening prayers continuing until 6:30 PM.
